Should the U.S. Government intervene with agricultural policies?

My paper topic for my AG 101 class. We discussed a lot about the Current Farm Bill and benefits such as food stamps and school lunch programs in class. I know it's kind of vague, but I want to get an idea of know what you all think and why.

Yes, the government should intervene, they assure us that our food is healthy and not contaminated nor misrepresented, they provide benefits to low income families that need assistance and they make sure that the market does not get out of control either way.
