What percent of authors actually get published?

I read it somewhere and I can't remember the number...I think it's like 2% of authors actually get published or something. I'm not sure...does anyone know?

4% get published but 0.2% make it to the next round and get a chance to write another book that the world will reconize

It's much lower than 2%, but nobody can give you an exact figure because nobody's collecting that information from every publisher out there. I can tell you that my own publisher has called its authors "one in a thousand" because that's about how many manuscripts they turn down for every one they buy. But I wouldn't assume that that percentage holds true for every publishing house. Some are easier to get into and others are more difficult.

    Source(s): I'm a published romance novelist.

I've read a couple agent blogs where they claimed that they received 6,000 queries per year (that's just for one agent). Of those 6,000 they requested to see partials or fulls for about 1%. Of that 1% they only actually represented a handful.
