Environmental Engineer is a somewhat broad title. It is usually included under the umbrella of civil engineering. Most of the applications that I am familiar with have to do with water quality and stream restoration. The job involves visiting the job sites or areas of environmental damage, office work, testing of materials, generating computer models to quantify damage or changes to the environment and things of that nature. A good deal of the work in this field has to do with minimizing or preventing environmental damage from construction. I find the work satisfying. Far and away the worst part is dealing with government permitting.Source(s): I am a Civil Engineer
