I tried to format my 4 SD cards with Windows XP with FAT and FAT32 file systems (by the way, here FAT is actually FAT16). Then I tested them on my Wii : I copied the same channel to the 4 SD cards with both file systems. I found out that Wii accepts both file systems, but it is about 3 times faster with FAT than FAT32. For reference, the 4 SD cards I used are :
- 1 Kingmax 256 MB Platinum 60x
- 2 Corsair 2GB 60x
- 1 Sandisk 2GB unrated speed
For example, copy of Final Soldier channel (a virtual console game) to my fastest Corsair SD card takes :
- 12 seconds to SD card formatted in FAT
- 40 seconds to SD card formatted in FAT32
Incidently, I also discovered that my other Corsair SD card is a lot slower than this one while their rating is identical :-(
