I have had many cold sores. Some terrible, some not as bad. My advice to you - rarely touch it, and whatever you do, do NOT pop it! Abreva is the best thing you can buy for cold sores. Though it is expensive, it is worth it. As soon as you feel the tingling and itchiness of a cold sore coming on, rub some of the abreva on it and it most likely will not even appear! I am addicted to Carmex and swear by it, but it will not heal cold sores. You can put it on the cold sore to keep it moistened, but that will not help it really in all honesty. If you don't want to spend the money on abreva, be extremely careful and get a needle, pop it and make sure NO liquid gets anywhere! The cold sore can and will spread super quickly. Immediately after popping it, dip a q-tip in nail polish remove . Put the q-tip on the cold sore (this may burn badly). But worth it! This dries out the coldsore, making it less noticable and reduce the time it takes it to heal.
