What does the phrase "DEVIL DOG" mean to the USMC?

For some reason they do not like to be called DEVIL DOGS today.. This is a derogatory remark when said from one Jarhead to another.

To all the Devil Dogs past, current, and present if you are offended by the term DEVIL DOG I recommend you suck it up and keep your pie hole shut..The phrase is a tradition and has been around longer than your whiny *** and will be here long after you leave.

Tradition is what it is all about in the Marines and some seem to just toss this aside because of political correctness..
