Why Did Obama Vote to Suspend A Gas Tax in Illinois but won't support it Nationally?
The savings to consumers would be 18.4 cent per gallon on federal tax and 24.4 cent for diesel tax.
As a State Senator, however, Obama voted to suspend the State sales tax on motor fuels. (Reference S.B. 1310: Senate Third Floor Reading, Passed, 50-0-6, 3/8/00, Obama Voted Yea).
Illinois suspended its 5% sales tax on motor fuels.
Why did Obama think it was a good idea to give the people of Illinois a break on their gas tax but not the entire nation?
