Who was Molly Hatchet?

Other than the music group, who was Molly Hatchet? I'm thinking she was related to the prohibition some how.

She's a legend. Purportedly, she was a 18th century Salem prostitute named Molly, who would behead her wealthy lovers with her "hatchet" and then dispose of their bodies. She was a common southern folktale, and then in the late 70's, a rock band from Jacksonville used her as their band name. They became relatively famous, and that's why most people have heard of her nowadays.

Molly Hatchet wasn t a person but rather a nickname, just as we might say "There goes Suzie Cutsie." There is no person actually named Suzie Cutsie that I know of. During prohibition they would have referred to Carrie A.

Nation as "Molly Hatchet", perhaps derisively perhaps not depending on which side on the debate they stood.

The Prohibition person you are thinking of is Carrie A. Nation, who broke up bars with a hatchet.

The band took its name from a legendary Southern prostitute who supposedly mutilated and decapitated her clients.
