What do you think of the lyrics to this song?

[Part 1: Jesus Of Suburbia]

I'm the son of rage and love

The Jesus of Suburbia

From the bible of "none of the above"

On a steady diet of soda-pop and Ritalin

No one ever died for my sins in hell

As far as I can tell

At least the ones I got away with

But there's nothing wrong with me

This is how I'm supposed to be

In a Land of Make Believe

That don't believe in me

Get my television fix

Sitting on my crucifix

The living in my private womb

While the moms and Brads are away

To fall in love and fall in debt

To alcohol and cigarettes and Mary-Jane

To keep me insane, doing someone else's cocaine

But there's nothing wrong with me

This is how I'm supposed to be

In a Land of Make Believe

That don't believe in me

[Part 2: City Of The Damned]

At the center of the earth

In the parking lot

Of the 7-11 where I was taught

The motto was just a lie

It says "Home is where your heart is"

But what a shame

'Cause everyone's heart

Doesn't beat the same

It's beating out of time

Update:

City of the dead

At the end of another lost highway

Signs misleading to nowhere

City of the damned

Lost children with dirty faces today

No one really seems to care

I read the graffiti

In the bathroom stall

Like the holy scriptures in a shopping mall

And so it seemed to confess

It didn't say much

But it only confirmed that

The center of the Earth

Is the end of the world

And I could really care less

City of the dead

At the end of another lost highway

Signs misleading to nowhere

City of the damned

Lost children with dirty faces today

No one really seems to care

[Part 3: I Don't Care]

I don't care if you don't

I don't care if you don't

I don't care if you don't care [x4]

Everyone's so full of ****!

Born and raised by hypocrites

Hearts recycled but never saved

From the cradle to the grave

We are the kids of war and peace

From Anaheim to the Middle East

We are the stories and disciples

Of the Jesus of Suburbia

Land of Make Believe

And it don't believe in me

Land of Make Believe

Update 2:

And it don't believe in me

Land of Make Believe

And it don't believe

And I don't care! (woo woo woo)

I don't care (woo woo woo)

I don't care (woo woo woo)

I don't care (woo woo woo)

I don't care!

[Part 4: Dearly Beloved]

Dearly beloved, are you listening?

I can't remember a word that you were saying

Are we demented or am I disturbed?

The space that's in between insane and insecure

Oh therapy, can you please fill the void?

Am I retarded or am I just overjoyed?

Nobody's perfect and I stand accused

For lack of a better word, and that's my best excuse

[Part 5: Tales of Another Broken home]

To live and not to breathe is to die in tragedy

To run, to run away

To find what to believe

And what I leave behind this hurricane of ******* lies

I lost my faith to this

This town that don't exist

So I run, I run away

To the light of masochist

And I leave behind this hurricane of ******* lies

And I walked this line

A million and one ******* times

But not this time!

I don't feel any shame

Update 3:

I won't apologise

When there ain't nowhere you can go

Running away from pain

When you've been victimized

Tales from another broken home

    Isn't that Green Day?

    It's ok, I guess.

I love the song. Green Day is one my favorite bands (right up there with Foxboro Hot Tubs) and this is one of my favorite songs of theirs.

Parts of it do describe suburban life perfectly. For the record- it doesn't say its "OK" to do drugs such as cocaine. It is mocking suburban kids (largely white) who do things such as cocaine to try and be cool. There are much more serious problems in the world, but they create self-pity. Take the line "On a steady diet of soda-pop and Ritalin" to look at America. Ritalin is an incredibly over-prescribed drug, much like Prozac (hence Prozac Nation).

The whole song is just about life in general, as many of Green Day's songs are. Anyone who claims they are immature or stuck in high school needs to listen to more of their stuff. Take Minority as a great example, or Saint's Are Coming (I know its a remake, but theirs was with U2, who is arguably the greatest band of the last 20 years)

    I've seen Your face

    On stain-glass, colored lights,

And pictures of You looking to the sky,

You've been portrayed a thousand different ways

But my heart can see You better than my eyes

And it's love that paints the portrait of Your life

    The face of love

    The face of love

You look more like love everday

These are some serious lyrics. I can see where you mixed the spiritual and the natural together. You are right one. Very radical, but on point.

The only bad thing is that someone can use your lyrics and I hope no one doesn't.

It sounds like whoever wrote this is feeling incredibly confused, lost, searching and hopeless. And they let this stuff play on the radio all of the time! No wonder people commit suicide!

I don't like the lyrics, they make stuff sound harmless and okay that isn't (like pot and cocaine), they seem like death put into words. They scare me, the person who wrote this sounds empty, and like a crazy evil phycopath.

Not my favorite Green Day song, but still pretty damn good. They are awesome in concert.

Honestly? Reads like the self-absorbed stuff my friends and I were writing in junior high.

Very sad, very depressing, hopeless, self pity, desparation, disrespect, anger. I don't like it. These are the fruits of Satan.
