I think that we need to cut a lot of useless government programs... Don't let the government pitch in on stupid crap like researching how long it takes ketchup to pour out of a bottle. Also, the government does not need to be giving funding to a lot of medical research programs... Obviously, the research needs to be done, but the government doesn't need to do it. We pump out a lot of money on stupid useless crap that doesn't need to be done.
I don't want universal health care, but I would greatly appreciate it if health care were more affordable. They should focus on that! I mean, it should be like car insurance. If you are pretty much healthy, and only go for regular checkups, then you pay a pittance. If you have real problems, then your rates should go up... I don't know. All I know is that I looked at getting some health insurance and I found a policy for $100 month that has a $1500 deductible. That means I would end up paying $2200 a year if I got really sick. Might not seem like a lot, but I never even get a cold! I find that it is much cheaper for me to just pay the doctor the $250 for my annual check-up (plus lab work because I am on thyroid medication), pay my dentist the $150 for my teeth cleaning, etc and pay $22 a month for my prescription. My out of pocket health care costs about $664 per year.... as opposed to that $2200. Obviously, I won't stay healthy forever... but I am waiting until health care is more affordable.
As for social security, it's a joke. It's been a joke since it started. It was never a good program. It just sucks our money and screws us with it in the end. It's like handing the knife to the guy who stabs you in the back.
