Condoleezza Rice learned figure skating in Denver, Colorado, while her parents attended summer courses at The University of Denver. She was a competitive skater from age 12 to 17, skating with the Denver FSC. Apparently she woke up at 4:30am to practice before school - devoting 3 hours a day to skating. She liked the structure and discipline of training. Her busy schedule as a top diplomat prevented her from continuing to skate.
“I believe I may have learnt more from my failed figure-skating career than I did from anything else,” she once said. “Athletics gives you a kind of toughness and discipline that nothing else really does. ”
Apparently she has a mean sit spin! :)
