At the High School teach at they do, but they call it Tech. now. They have classes that specialize in wood, metal and welding. There are usually 3 levels of each and they also have manufacturing and a class where they build a car.

This is in a small rich town, if it gives you a better idea.

Sal I'm in Canada and have been an elementary school teacher as well as a special ed teacher and something is really wrong with that curriculum. By now she should be doing math basic algebra, basic geometry, long division, multiplication tables , word problems to solve . In english she should be reading small novels geared to 9-11 year olds, writing stories, speeches, different kinds of poetry, doing spelling and grammar. She should also be doing projects on different countries or perahps even states and learning research techniques both offline and online There should also be some environment science, like growing plants, studying animals and insects, learning about the planets and weather , types of clouds , their effects etc. She also should be studying explorers in the new world as well as learning about the US geographic and basic civics and history of the US. A little penmanship should be started as well showing her how to write in a cursive style rather than printing. And there should be some kind of physical education component, like tumbling, playing games like volleyball or basic basketball and baseball when in season or at least learning to swim . There should also be some health component , hygeine and differences between the sexes, not necessarily sex education but that should be some of the component, explaining things like periods and puberty. There should also be some basic nutritional information using the healthy eating food charts etc. I don't know where she's going to school but that school needs to be reported to the board of education for a review by the superintendents . There is something very very wrong with that curriculum.

Not as much as they used to. Sadly, so many districts are in financial disaster, Industrial and Fine Arts, then PE are the first to get cut when the budget gets tight. Too bad the idiots in Washington DC and the state government don't realize that not every student is college bound and that Industrial Arts classes provide a much needed service and start to students who are gifted in skilled trades and may very well be able to make a living from them in the future. No Child Left Behind? Yeah, right.
