How safe is flying on a plane?

Well, I was considering flying somewhere within a month or 2 but yesterday I read this article http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/23940276/ and now I'm just considering driving the 13 hours there where I need to go. The plane was much quicker and that's why I was considering it, but after reading that article and never having been on an airplane before I'm sort of stuck. Can anyone give me some advice on this or tell me some of their experiences when flying? If this helps the duration was estimated at 4 hours. Thanks in advance for anyone who answers.

Hi there , I travel at least on the plane 3 times a year and to Europe , Asia , and within Canada and I have been doing it for years also . Anywhere from 5 hours to 25 hrs travelling time on the plane . and that not counting the waiting time for connections in the airport . Its one of the safest travelling mode that a man can get . Unfortunately because of the media coverage of airline disaster , it set fear into people's mind about travelling by plane . I urge t try its a great way to travel . God bless and have safe trip .

As per statics, flying is safer than road travel. Terrorist attack is not very easy these days with enhanced security at airports and the aircraft Modern aircrafts r very reliable, there r nearly zero engine failures, and even in the most likely event of an engine failure, there is another engine which can control and land the aircraft safely. Consider yourself lucky to get a plane ride, and enjoy your flight

I travel alot I find flying much cheaper faster and more safe because when driving you have the risk of crashing. Planes these days are so sturdy and safe.

It used to freak me out but then I got a job where I had to fly several times a week and now I like it. It's way safer than driving in a car

"You have more of a chance of dying in a car crash on the way to the airport than on an 8 hour flight."

I do hope you take the option of flying. Don't let people's skepticism deter you from flying.

    Have a good trip!

Its not safe. If it falls or hit by Bin Laden you'll be roasted by the fiery fire from the jet fuel!
