Do they have to do research?

It doesn't force anybody to be informed. You can not vote or you can vote ignorantly. There's no law saying you have to do research before voting. If so then nobody would vote, unless of course they were able to turn that research into a reality TV show.

It does not force anyone to become informed. Spend some time on here reading some of the drivel posted by so called informed people.

You answered your own question with one word: "right". Voting is a right, not a privilege, and while there are certain minimal requirements such as age and citizenship, nobody can impose outside restrictions on a voter, such as requiring them to be "informed" (by whose definition of "informed"?) That's what the Voting Rights Act is all about, man.

That's all up to you. You can toss a coin to make your choice and if you're OK with it fine by me. Most of us want to be informed or at least keep up at the water cooler. With the resources for information becoming more accessible, the trend will be toward a more informed America. So, if you don't want to keep up, it is your choice.

It does in that most are informed through pop culture and the media rather than reading up.

Never heard that one before. Anyway, where would the information come from, the media?

It has never worked that way. You are either sheep or you do your due diligence. We vote the way we want to vote and the system of how we do it, is on us as individuals qualified to vote.

It doesn't, as anyone living in the U.S. can see, based on the current administration.

    It obviously doesn't.
