    演講步驟 (大綱):

    ♦ Possible introduction/ thesis direction

Every day, we all make decisions. But do we make good decisions? Does the decision we make glorify God? 1 Corinthians 10:23~11:1 gives us the guidance on how to make good decisions in our daily life.

    A) Why you chose 1 Corinthians 10:23-11:1?

﹣to make beneficial and constructive decisions (to glorify God)

♦ What is significant to the audience?

    ﹣making beneficial and constructive decisions

    C) Logic appeal

﹣distinguish the "beneficial and constructive" from the "permissible" (eg. what things are good for us and what things are not)

    A) Extrinsic proof

    ﹣Paul's example: 1 Corinthians 10:25-30

    B) Pathetic appeal

﹣your example of problems when making bad decisions

    D) Significant to Christ's work

﹣God is the creator of all things. Everything is given from him, and him only.

﹣Every decision you make reflects on your attitude to God; do you keep in your heart that the glory if from God?

    * how does making good decisions significant to being Christians (1 Corinthians 10:2 "for, 'The earth is the Lord's, and everything in it.'" -- Paul refers from -- Psalm 24:1 "The earth is the Lord's, and everything in it")

    ♦ Conclusion -- Possible challenge

You have to make decisions every single days, for example to choose the words you say, food you eat, cloth you wear... Could you apply Paul's teaching and to give the glory to God daily?

    簡短的介紹 (歷史背景):

    ♦ Background

1 Corinthians is Paul's letters to Corinthians. In 10:23~11:1, Paul addressed the Believer's Freedom; he told the new believers in Corinth to always do things in beneficial ways, although everything is permissible. He reminded believers to remember God's glory.

    2008-04-07 11:00:28 補充:

♦ Explain 10:25-30 (Paul's example to separate the good from bad)

Back in their days, Corinths' were pagans who would scarface meat to worshiped idols. For new believers, they weren't sure whether to eat these meat or not because they were afraid that eating t would offend God (像是台灣祭拜過神明的食物).

    2008-04-07 11:02:28 補充:

Paul wrote this letter to remind the new believers that idols were not the God; therefore, there were nothing wrong about eating these meat. Paul also advised that if invited by non-believers who told believers that the meat was sacrificed,

    2008-04-07 11:02:31 補充:

then believers should not eat the meat to avoid denounce from non-believers.

    A) Extrinsic proof

I would just use Paul's example here. In passage 10:25-30, Paul tells new believers what are good decisions. He specifically explains that a bad decision is to make others "denounce" you (10:28-30).

    2008-04-09 09:04:41 補充:

You can read from WHAT IS PROBLEMATIC and my explanation to understand more about the passage itself.

﹣KEY POINT: Good Decision GLORIFIES GOD and Bad Decision DOES NOT

﹣Argument: believers have to be wise in choosing our daily path, don't be the stumbling block of others.

    2008-04-09 09:11:17 補充:

    B) Pathetic appeal

You are a student (role: to study). What if you decided to skip studies and failed the courses? Does failing your study glorify God? This is an example of making bad choice. You can make your example personal or general, depend on your approach.

    2008-04-09 09:12:07 補充:

    D) Significant to Christ's work

Since GLORIFY GOD has being talked for many times, I would focus on GLORIFY GOD as the significant to Christ's work. Keep in mind that when Jesus was spreading the gospel, to GLORIFY GOD was one of the main purpose for him to be down here.

    2008-04-09 09:13:47 補充:

Paul reminds the believers that every decision reflects on our attitude to God, whether it is good or bad. "for, 'The earth is the Lord's, and everything in it.'" (10:2), therefore, we could say that we, as children of God, all belong to God, so our daily decisions should also glorify God.
