American culture before Vatican II compared to now?

Can anyone tell me about the role of men and women, the average level of education, common values, occupations, stuff people did for fun, or anything else before Vatican II compared to now?

I do not think that Vatican ll had any noticeable effect on American Culture. America (especially at that time) was not basically a Catholic country -- its Christian heritage was predominantly Protestant.
