My computer is not detecting when there is a disk in it, what could be wrong?

I have an Acer system with Windows Vista. The Cd burner does not work, it kept saying insert a blank disk even though there was one already in, and when i ran the iTunes diagnostic it said that there was no disk detected. Then when i tried to play a game which requires the disk to play, it kept saying insert game disk- when in fact it was already in the computer. Please help!?

I'm willing to bet the cd drive has failed.

You can buy a usb cd drive, attach it to your system to work around the problem.

if you have the same problem as me, i have to put the disk in and restart my computer then it works.
