Is getting x number of virgins in heaven when a Muslim blows themselves up truly an Islamic belief?
Or is this something made up by anti-Muslim individuals for the purpose of discrediting Muslims?

Mim is wrong, it's not in the Qur'an, it's in the Hadith. In case you don't know, there are two sources of knowledge in Islam - Qur'an (Muslims believe it to be the word of god) and Hadiths (sayings of Muhammed). Some people take Hadiths seriously and follow them strictly, some don't. Those that don't, take only Qur'an into consideration.
Qur'an does speak of Houris (Heavenly virgins), but it does not talk of them in terms of reward for martyrdom nor does it specify the number. On the other side, one Hadith does specify the number (72), but like I said, those sayings are subject to high criticism even among Muslims themselves.
Basically, Hadiths are weak spots of Islam. Most of that nasty stuff you hear about Islam comes from there and is abused by anti-Islamic propaganda to give it a bad name.
EDIT: OK, I see that many people think it's in the Qur'an. People, it's not. I hate making this long, but here's what Qur'an says about those virgins, and as you'll see nowhere is the number mentioned:
(QURAN 37:40-4 : "In the Gardens of Paradise, Facing one another on thrones, Round them will be passed a cup of pure wine; White, delicious to the drinkers, Neither they will have any kind of hurt, abdominal pain, headache, or sin, nor will they suffer intoxication from it. And with them will be chaste females, restraining their glances, with wide and beautiful eyes."
(QURAN 44:51-55): "Verily! The righteous will be in Paradise. Among Gardens and Springs; Dressed in fine silk and also in thick silk, facing each other, and We shall marry them to Houris with wide, lovely eyes."
(QURAN 52: 17-20): "Verily, for those who fear Allah there will be Gardens in Paradise, filled with Delight. Enjoying in that which their Lord has bestowed on them, and the fact that their Lord saved them from the torment of the blazing Fire. The Lord will say: ‘Eat and drink with happiness because of what you used to do’. They will recline with ease on thrones arranged in ranks. And We shall marry them to Houris with wide lovely eyes."
(QURAN 55:54-59): "Reclining upon the couches lined with silk brocade, and the fruits of the Gardens will be near at hand. Then which of the Blessings of your Lord will you deny? Wherein will be those houris, restraining their glances upon their husbands, whom no man or jinn has opened their hymens with sexual intercourse before. Then which of the Blessings of your Lord will you deny? In beauty they are like rubies and coral. Then which of the Blessings of your Lord will you deny?"
(QURAN 55:70-77): "Therein gardens will be fair wives good and beautiful; Then which of the Blessings of your Lord will you deny? Houris restrained in pavilions; Then which of the Blessings of your Lord will you deny? Whom no man has opened their hymens with sexual intercourse before. Then which of the Blessings of your Lord will you deny? Reclining on green cushions and rich beautiful mattresses. Then which of the Blessings of your Lord will you deny?"
(QURAN 56:37-40): "...We created the houris and made them virgins, loving companions for those on the right hand…."
(QURAN 78:31-34): "As for the righteous, they shall surely triumph. Theirs shall be gardens and vineyards, and high-bosomed virgins for companions: a truly overflowing cup."
AND ........... here's that famous Hadith that everyone confuses with Qur'an:
"The Prophet Muhammad was heard saying: 'The smallest reward for the people of paradise is an abode where there are 80,000 servants and 72 wives, over which stands a dome decorated with pearls, aquamarine, and ruby, as wide as the distance from Al-Jabiyah [a Damascus suburb] to Sana'a [Yemen]."
But like I said, Hadiths are basically hear-say, so many Muslims don't follow those.

I think it's 72 or 77 virgins. I don't know if it's real or not, it seems kind of sexist though. But Islam is a patriarchal religion. Why would you need sex when you're dead if sex is for procreation? It might be a mental "purity" thing - where innocence is what is important, but then would the man be vampiric for wanting to have all that innocence?
Non-Muslims (not necessarily Anti-Muslims) use any tiny section of Islamic belief that is different than their own belief to make an inflammatory statement.
It's like Christians love to forget that Jesus' story in the Bible is missing decades of his life. Um, did the son of G-d do something wrong? GASP. Guess we'll never know. Every religion has cracks. That's why it's better to have faith, and take everything with a grain of salt.

No. It is is no part of the Quran, and the only ones who say it is, are liars who have NEVER read the Quran.
Note that NOT ONE has been able to support his claim with the ALLEGED sura and verse. That, alone, should tell you where the bigoted liars are coming from.
The Quran teaches that taking an 'innocent' life is MURDER, plain and simple, and is forbidden...but to save ONE life is as if you save all of mankind.
Those radical Islamic fundamentalists who blow themeselves up, have been brainwashed by the kind of perverted leaders, no different than Fred Phelps and his fanatical freaks in the Westboro Baptisth Church...who advocate the deaths of gay men and women, though they haven't the guts or the conviction to do the job themselves and blow themselves up. Note that it is not the false teachers, like Sadr who ever blow themselves up, but the poor, stupid dupes they have brainwashed.
As to the delights promised the faithful in Paradise, it is as hyperbolic as the Christian idea of a Heaven paved with streets of gold, where the faithful will live in mansions of precious stone....it's all allegorical. Why would followers of Jesus need such a materalistic afterlife????

No it is not an Islamic belief. The Islamic belief around suicide is that it is punishable in the afterlife. It is a grave sin. The majority of suicide bombers have political rather than religious motives. The story that they are really doing it for the mythical 72 virgins is just a means to discredit them and ignore the political grievances that have led them to do it. Suicide bombing is unjustifiable for whatever reason it is done.Source(s): motivations of suicide bombers: http://www.abc.net.au/7.30/content/2005/s1418817.h...

Heaven is a place where you get rewarded for your good deeds not sins so if you blow up innocent people then you probably will not be going to heaven. The 72 virgin wives mentioned are for anyone seeking such a reward who is also worthy of being in heaven.

hi you - has it truly been that lengthy? something about this became ringing some bells... lol Sorry, record! very good question. per chance the ladies get the mummy of All extreme homestead Makeovers, also nicely-called Re-Virginizing, then they're frequently given away, lower back. No center value necessary.

No. If someone blew himself up, he would be committing a sin. And why would God want to reward a sinner with virgins?

It's true and it goes directly against the teaching of Jesus.
Matthew 22:30 For in the resurrection they neither marry, nor are given in marriage, but are as the angels of God in heaven.
It's just more proof that Islam does not worship the one true God.

the quran does say in one surah verse 72 those that go to Paradise will be waited on by virgins of the opposite sex who will satisfy there every desire it does not take much imagination to think what that may be for young men.

committing suicide is punished by eternal hell in Islam.
but those who die defending themselves/others,their lands..etc.(for noble purposes) ,yes they will enjoy their lives in heaven. (and sex is only one joy of many many others, eg. foods, drinks, clothes, properties)
The most great joy of heaven 4 believers is that they`re going to see god himself .
