Is Pankration or MMA being considered for the olympics?

Someone I know said pankration was being considered for the olympics? I think he meant MMA? Anyone hear about this?

In order for MMA/Pankration to be considered, first it must become a recognized sport by the IOC and it must have a recognized International Organization, such as FIFA for soccer or the IJF for Judo.

This is the list of currently recognized sports by the IOC (none of these are Olympic Sports yet, but they are all under consideration).

    Air sports

    Orienteering

    Bandy

    Pelote Basque

    Billiard Sports

    Polo

    Boules

    Powerboating

    Bowling

    Racquetball

    Bridge

    Roller Sports

    Chess

    Rugby

    Cricket

    Sport climbing

    DanceSport

    Squash

    Golf

    Surfing

    Karate

    Sumo

    Korfball

    Tug of War

    Life Saving

    Underwater Sports

    Motorcycle Racing

    Water Skiing

    Mountaineering and Climbing

    Wushu

    Netball

MMA/Pankration isn't on this list yet, so it's got a long ways to go before it gets into the Olympics.

That's my understanding. I think it was supposed to be included (under the pankration name) in Greece, but some sort of political mess gummed up the process.

I think we'll see it soon. MMA has largely standardized rules and is practiced world wide.
