He made a guitar out of a piece of wood sometime before 1959, when he got his first actual guitar.

He played lead guitar in The Detours, the band that changed into The Who after a few people were dropped and Keith Moon was added.

It was found that Pete Townshend handled the guitar fine enough and that they didn't need a rhythm guitarist, so Daltrey became just a singer.

He is decent, but he isn't Pete Townshend.

He has played for years but did not play guitar with The Who until they started recording "It's Hard". Sadly, it was out of necessity because Pete Townshend's substance abuse was so out of control at that time that they believed Roger would need to cover up for him on tour.

Pete eventually got it together for their tour, but Roger still picks up the guitar for several songs at live shows. Saw them last year and found Roger to still be a "serviceable" guitarist.

He's played for years-played on his solo records.

His skills, like most lead singers that take up guitar (Mick Jagger for example) are rudimentary.

I have never seen him play the guitar.
