  • That's hard to quantify because many corporations who test on animals have many, many subsidiaries. Herbal Essences is owned by Clairol, which is owned by Procter & Gamble, a notorious vivisection company. Herbal Essences doesn't test on animals, but their parent does, so they're not really vegan.

Go to www.caringconsumer.com to see which companies don't test on animals. And keep in mind that just because a company doesn't test on animals doesn't mean it's cruelty-free, as it may contain animal ingredients. You still have to read the label.

    Here is a good list:http://caringconsumer.com/resources_companies.asp

And veggie tart is right, I didn't see her answer when I started typing mine. Always check labels, even if a company doesn't test on animals some of the ingredients may be animal derived.

It has every company that does and doesn't test on animals, and lets you know which companies only sell vegan products and etc.

Peta.com will give you a complete list, often they are very large corporations: Gillette, Cover Girl, Proctor and Gamble, etc.
