Ignorant Question: Are nuns literally married to God in God's eyes?

Update:

I've heard that nuns are married to God. I'm just wondering if it's to be taken literal or if it's just a figure of speech to imply that nuns cannot look upon men.

That is a figure of speech. Old rites of taking vow's had the novices dressed like bride's to show this was instead of a wedding and to show the purity and commitment. but it si not considered a Sacrament, which marriage is in the Church.

They are married to Jesus Christ and the church. They take vows of poverty, chastity and obedience. In the old days they some even used to wear wedding gowns on the day they professed their vows.

Edit: Many wear wedding rings too.

God sounds like quite the polygamist.

A better word might be "consecrated" to God.

    No.

The bride of Christ is the Christian collective.
