The function of mind is to predict / cause the future by remembering and analyzing the past.
New / different / sensational things are things that do not fit the pattern of the ordinary & understood. They therefore warrant our special attention until such time as they become understood & predictable OR at least till we figure out if they are a benefit, a threat, or an irrelevancy.
Universal Spirtual Wisdom though…..
It's a bit contradictory to call something 'universal' then ask why it's forgotten. Universal kind of means unforgettable or impossible not to notice - like well ... the Universe.
As for Spiritual Wisdom, what is that?
If it's exploring our desire & pursuit of life, I think people give that a lot of thought. I might even grant you that Religious skepticism fails to address the need that caused Religion to evolve in the first place. BUT..
The most common use of 'Spiritual' means non physical. Which usually means presuming the existence of, and talking to, creatures that do not interact with the physical world in any meaningful way.
Not sure I see the wisdom in that.
If I see Moses part the Red Sea, I would definitely research spiritual power.
(Because this is a significant physical effect)
But 8 guys (& $100 grand worth of electronics) staying up all night to see a ghost nudge a picture frame - ridiculous.
