My son is recovering from TBI. I'm looking for help dealing with mood swings. Any resources you can suggest?

The biggest thing to remember is make sure your son gets enough sleep and rest. Keep his schedule simple. Fatigue magnifies mood swings and memory problems.

Don't feel like you need to take everything on by yourself. Try to find some support! Try to find some local support groups. If nothing else, here are a couple of the better online message boards/support groups I've run across:

    http://www.tbihome.org

    http://www.braininjurychat.org/

I hope my info helps and I wish you the best of luck!

I've recently started a blog at http://www.brainandspinalcord.org on the subject of brain and spinal cord injuries if you're interested in learning more.

I am sorry that your son is going through this. But, it is a blessing that he is recovering. The mood swings will continue for a while. If he is getting them after the sun is going down its called sundowners. I would contact the social worker at a local rehab facility, not a nursing home but a true intensive rehab facility and see if they have any pointers. If he is getting violent during these mood swings and you need a break look into respite care.

Good Luck and Hang in There
