The questionnaire contains 40 items and 1 warm up item. Children were asked to rate each item in reference to the identified best friend. Following Parker and Asher, the name of the best friend was embedded in each individual item. Children were asked to rate each item on a scale from” not at all true” (0) to” really true”(4)The items in the FQQ reflect the following dimensions of friendship quality :(a)validation and caring(e.g., ”Jamie makes me feel good about my ideas”),(b) conflict resolution (e.g.,” Jamie and I make up easily when we fight”),(c)conflict and betrayal (e.g.,” Jamie and I argue a lot”),(d)Help and guidance (e.g.,” Jamie and I help each other with schoolwork a lot”),(e)companionship and recreation (e.g.,” Jamie and I always sit together at lunch”),and (f)intimate exchange (e.g.,” Jamie and I always tell each other our problem”).The internal consistency for each of the subscales ranged from alpha =.69 for conflict and betrayal to alpha = .90 for help and guidance (mean =.79).A child’s friendship quality score for each dimension was calculated as the mean of the rating on the corresponding items.
