There was once a young boy who took care of his family’s sheep in the hills outside of a small village. The boy had nothing to do but watch the sheep all day, so he felt bored. No one came to visit him, because the hills were used only for raising sheep.
One day he thought of a way both to have fun and to attract some company. He ran to the village, crying, “Wolf! Wolf!” Everyone in the village come running to help, and a few people even stayed to talk with him. After a few days the boy tried the same trick, and again the villagers came to help him.
A week later, a wolf came down from the mountains to eat the boy’s sheep. The boy again ran to the village, crying “Wolf! Wolf!” However, no one believed him. The wolf killed many of the boy’s sheep. That night the boy told his father what had happened. His father said, “No one believes a liar, even when he tells the truth.”Source(s): 我
