What is the best excercise to flatten the tummy area? I need to target that area.?

Update:

Jason K: Thanks for your answer, but it isn't long enough, can you make it a little longer????;)

Update 2:

Thanks J-Dog. With the ball, are you talking those big balls you sit on and lean back on, cross your arms and sit up?

I'm not interested in losing weight, as I've been trying to gain...I just want to lose the flab in the tummy area.

I have had two kids and I have tried a few things. Of course there is nursing and regular walking to get rid of the baby fat.

To flatten the tummy, try doing 'Pilates Core' - those classes will work wonders at working out your middle and your gluts if you do it right!

    Good luck!

Work out your abs 2 or 3 days a week

Abs develop when they're at rest, not when you're working them. So working them every day doesn't give them a chance to grow and get strong. You will develop abs by working them two or three times a week. I'd recommend adding the ab circuit to the beginning of your strength-training workout. Saving them until the end of the workout means there's more possibility that you'll skimp and take shortcuts.

    Pick different exercises every workout

There are hundreds of ways to work your abs, but you need to pick only five exercises each workout. The key is variety: Changing your routine doesn't allow your abs to get comfortable, so they'll continue to grow after each workout.

    Do a circuit

In the first week of workouts, do just one set of each of your five exercises. (A set is 10 to 15 repetitions, depending on the exercise.) In the second and third weeks, do two sets if you'd like, but perform them in circuits—that is, do all of the exercises once before repeating any of them. After that, you can increase to three circuits.

    Go slow

Each rep of an ab exercise should last slightly longer than Richard Hatch's fame—4 to 6 seconds. Any faster, and you run the risk of letting momentum do the work. The slower you go, the higher the intensity. The higher the intensity, the stronger the stomach.

Pick any five exercises from the following sections. Perform in a circuit with no more than 30 seconds of rest (1 minute in some cases)—one exercise followed by the next. Rest. After Week 1, repeat the circuit. Some exercises use such equipment as medicine balls, dumbbells, or cable machines—and with some of the more advanced moves, you'll need a partner. If you're just starting out, pick beginner exercises. As you progress (using a smaller number of repetitions or eliminating equipment) to get the feel of more advance moves.

Well, first thing is reduce your caloric intake to a point where your metabolism can sucessfully burn off the excess calories.

Second, start a scheduled work out schedule.

Start out for only short periods and work your way up to a good work out about three times per week for 30 to 45 minutes.

(Do not over exert yourself; If you ovework yourself at first you'll be less likely to keep to your workout schedule.)

    Now to the workouts:

Contrary to what you may think doing constant abs crunches will NOT flatten your stomach!!!

(I can not stress this enough...)

What you need to do is do a overall total body workouts that will include your abs.

    For Example:

Workout #1 - Chest, Arms, Abs

Workout #2 - Back, Calves, Abs

Workout #3 - Legs, Shoulders, Abs

This ensures that you will tone up everywhere as well as burn a large amount of calories which will start to burn off the excess bodyfat on your stomach.

Now when it comes to abs one of the best workout you can do is ball ab crunches. (Why?)

Because you lie on a ball and stretch out the abdominals which ensures that you must work your abdominals to their max in order to raise your torso off the ball.

(and They work! they helped me get my core in shape before my last bodybuilding show!)

And finally, I'f you are still having trouble keeping strict with your workouts.

Hire a personal trainer, A trainer helps by keeping track of your workout data and always keeps your workouts fun and different you that you do not plateau (emotionaly or physically.)

That all I can tell now (If I got into some of the other topics concering this I pretty sure I would lose you!)

    Well, any how Good Luck!

    and glad I could help.
