I'm not a fan. I don't hate them, but I do hate it when people hype them as being so brilliant and so great and blah blah blah.
One of them has some guitar skills, the other doesn't. They write with some counterpoint and that's kinda cool, sometimes. The main reason why I stopped liking them is that their music resembles a melting pot in all the wrong ways - stuff is thrown together willy-nilly, and it never really seems to work.
Maybe it's them trying so hard to look tough and being so image-centric. Maybe it's their penchant for poor spelling. Maybe it's their singer not writing decent lyrics. Maybe it's them being so constantly hyped and over-hyped about how wonderful they are.
I dunno, I just don't like them. I tried, I really did. I bought their first album, and just like I went through that Good Charlotte phase (what was I thinking?), I liked it a lot for about two weeks before I realized it just really really sucked. And yes, I've heard tracks off of every album since then - my opinion hasn't changed, and no matter how badly I wanted to like "Bat Country" I just couldn't.
Perhaps I'm spoiled - I listen to bands that know how to play their instruments and actually make melodies that fit the rest of the song. I listen to bands that write good lyrics. I listen to bands that are creative. (My current fav? Minus the Bear)
Maybe it's just spoiled me, and I can't stand listening to sub-par music any more? Maybe I shouldn't've stopped doing drugs, maybe I might like them then....
