Actually this is good news for Democrats.
Hillary would certainly drag Obama down were she to be on the ticket.
Obama is promising a new kind of politics while she clearly represents the old. Even if you are a supporter of hers surely you must realize that she is a divisive figure who is not simply disliked by the Republicans she is HATED by them.
As soon as it was announced that she was on the ticket there would be a blizzard of attack ads citing the numerous scandals in which she and her husband were implicated during the 1990s. TravelGate, Whitewater, cattle futures, campaign finance, Waco, renting out the Lincoln Bedroom, ChinaGate, Vince Foster, numerous sex scandals, the rape of Juanita Broderick, and many many more.
Even if you believe that she is completely innoccent you have to admit, if you are honest, that she would have to spend endless time defending herself against endless allegations and innuendo.
Wouldn't this hurt the ticket and the party as well?
Democrats may not care about this . They may say that all the allegations are false and that those are just mean-spirited tactics but John McCain does well with Independents. Since the country is split almost evenly between Democrat and Republican do the Democrats really want to risk losing the election because John McCain won the Independent vote which is some 20% of the population?
If you are a Democrat be glad that ticket won't happen.
As an Independent myself let me assure you that if Hillary is on the ticket at all I will surely vote for McCain.
