Rio de Janeiro, Brazil - in my mind, the only serious challenger to Chicago's bid. fresh from a successful hosting of Pan-American Games last July where old sports complex had been renovated and several new venues had been built. another plus point for their bid is that they will try to become the first South American country to host the Games. oh another footnote, they will host the final match of World Cup of Football in 2014.

Doha, Qatar - after hosting the 2006 Asian Games, this city could spring some surprise due to the state-of-the-art stadiums located in Aspire Sports City. the only two problems i could foresee in their bid is security concern being near to some Middle East countries like Iraq, and Iran and yes little Olympic sporting history.

Tokyo, Japan - last hosted the Games in 1964 and with that alone, they will able to host the games successfully but Beijing Games had hosted the Games eight years ago by that time so that lessen their chances of hosting the Games.

Madrid, Spain - Spain last hosted the Games in 1992 and former IOC head Juan Antonio Samaranch offered to help the bid, but a lot of potential problems will arise in this bid. for one, the security problems as memories are still fresh on what happened three years ago (Madrid train blasts) and just what you had posted consecutive hosting of Summer Olympics to Europe. you can make that three in a row, as Sochi, Russia will host the Winter Games in 2014.

Prague, Czech Republic - i will not be surprise if they will edged out Madrid in the shortlist. since they only missed two Olympics Games (1896 and 1984). but like Madrid, three consecutive Olympics Games in Europe is a big disadvantage.

Baku, Azerbaijan - the only one that is sure to miss the shortlist since they have so many factors to face: their sporting facilities is deteriorating; they only entered the Olympics in 1996; Iran is their closest border so security risk is huge; and nearby city, Sochi, Russia will host the 2014 Winter Olympics.
