alcohol, drugs and smoking are not good ways of dealing with stress, they place additional wear on the body and give the mind false signals of relaxation.
Yoga and/or meditation have been found to be excellent stress reducing exercises for mind and body.
Herbal tea's can calm stress for short periods, as well as herbal bath soaks (lavendar, chammomile, licorice...etc.)
You can use heat packs on your neck and shoulders during the evening. (those times when most of us find that we are sitting on the couch watching television.) This will help calm the body's muscles and promote a relaxed state of sleep.
Massage is always good too.
Determining what is causing your stress and making short term and reachable goals to slowly minimize the stress causes will help in the long term. For instance, if it is money.
