Townhouse is called 城市屋。 It is very similar to house, but instead of an

individual house, townhouse has its own community with other neighbours. Some townhouses are linked or built together. It is a newer way of living in north america. In the United States and Canada, a townhouse has two connotations. The older predates the automobile and denotes a house on a small footprint in a city, but due to having multiple floors (sometimes six or more) it has a large living space, often with servant quarters

Villa is a house, BUT... fancy and big ones. like a high class mansion with your own swimming poor, tennis court...etc. most Villa are built close to the ocean or on top of some mountain and facing an ocean view. A villa was originally an upper-class country house, though since its origins in Roman times the idea and function of a villa has evolved considerably

Apartment 公寓is like how most of us hong kong people are living in. tall buildings, with two or more units on a floor. An apartment is a self-contained housing unit that occupies only part of a building. Apartments may be owned or rented

unit 單位is your own living space in an apartment building or condo. your home inside an apartment building is an unit.

house is an idea of individual living. mostly it is a single building with 1 to 3 floors, with only one family living in. there will be front and back yard.

duplex : A duplex house is a dwelling comprised of two units, usually side-by-side, but sometimes on two different floors. The former often looks like two houses put together, sharing a wall , the latter usually appears as a townhouse, but with two different entrances. Duplexes are especially common in the Northeastern United States and urban areas throughout the United States.

cottage: a cottage is a dwelling, typically in a rural, or semi-rural location, more common in the UK, not so common in north america.

Source(s): myself, I lived in a townhouse and house before, very common words in my culture.
