My Ma use to make this dish called pica dio (ground beef stew)back in the 60s, and her Ma made it for her kids in the 40s , it went a long way and we loved it..
ground beef,diced potatoes,
and tomato sauce.
It was cooked together like a stew and it was great, especially in the cold winter months in Chicago.we would use our socks as mitten's,and she'd boil eggs so we could carry to school to keep our hands warm.
She also made pinto beans, with diced tomatoes and onions. She use to say that some days were not going to have the money to buy meat so learn to like them(beans)..and we did.,Till this day I cook beans from scratch at least once a week, and my kids love them.
