Why is the T in Depot silent?

    The word is of French origin: dépôt. Most, but not all, T endings are silent. Same situation with the letter S. In the case of Home Depot, the word from the following website has the definition which means "storehouse". More commonly called a "storage area" or "warehouse" here in the U.S. A.
