    [edit] Career

Born in Baoding, Hebei province, on October 15, 1981, she started training in competitive diving in 1988. She took up diving when she was six-years-old at the Baoding Training Base. In 1992, she was selected to dive for the Chinese national team. Her current coach is Zhong Shaozhen.

Guo represented China at the 2004 Summer Olympics, earning a gold medal in the 3 metre women's synchronized springboard along with Wu Minxia before finally winning her first individual Olympic gold in the 3 metre women's springboard. She is the leading member of the Chinese national women's diving team after Fu Mingxia. Currently her goal is to win medals at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing. She also announced on November 23, 2006 that she would retire following the 2008 Olympic Games.

    [edit] Personal life

Guo has been signed up by McDonald's, though insiders have claimed she was cautioned for having too many advertising contracts and exposure since her Olympic win.[citation needed]

Guo's off-the-board affairs after the Summer Olympics have been the subject of scrutiny in Mainland Chinese and Hong Kong media outlets. She is reputed to be the girlfriend of Chinese diver Tian Liang, although it is a relationship she neither admits nor denies.[citation needed]

Guo made entertainment headlines with a paparazzi shot of her dining with Kenneth Fok Kai-kong, the playboy grandson of the Hong Kong business tycoon Henry Fok. This time, Guo did not deny the relationship, and has been photographed many times with Kenneth Fok in public.[citation needed]

Chinese “Diving Queen” Guo Jingjing won the gold in the women's three-meter springboard event in Melbourne on Sunday, March 25th. This gold makes her the first diver to claim four consecutive victories in one event at the World Aquatics Championships.

Guo has also become a spokeswoman for a Chinese make-up brand recently.

Obviously, she possesses all the prerequisite commercial elements of a star:

    1. Olympic-championship crowns

    2. beautiful appearance

    and, of course,

    3. news value.
