# A frog in a well?

A frog was trying to climb out of a well that was 10m deep. In the first minute the frog climbed up 2 m. In the second minute it slipped down 1m. This pattern of climbing 2m one minute and falling 1m the next, was continued. How long did the frog take to reach the top of the well?

find how long it takes the frog to climb up 8m

the frog climbed up 2m in the first minute, and slipped down 1m at the second minute

so it takes the frog 2 minuntes to climb up 1m

8m = (1m/2min) t

t = 16min

so in the next minute, which is 17th min, the frog climbed 2m.

so the answer is 17th min

Well:

minute 1 the frog is at 2 m. then it drops down 1 m. so:

minute 2 the from is at 1 m.

This means every 2 minutes the frog gets 1 m. higher.. so to get 10 m. high (or to the top) it would take 20 minutes.

twenty minutes.

because it got 1 meter every 2 minutes

so you multiply the depth of the well by two

which equals 20 minutes

at the 17th minute, it would reach the TOP and not slip back again.
