What does ESD and overdrive do in a car?

I have a Toyota Altis and it has two buttons, one on the dashboard and one on the shift, where it says ESD and overdrive, respectively. What do they do?

ESD "electronic sport drive" changes when your gears change in the normal mode to give you a more power FEEL. Just reves the engine a little higher before the next gear up or down sometimes the mode won;t allow it to go to over a certian gear and certainly no tinto overdrive,. Over drive is an ecomony mode that keeps your engine speed as low as it can. Simply put over drive is when your engine is rotating slower than your transmission and rear wheels. It gets complicated with all the gear ratios but thats a simple way to put it.
