Socialism hasn't worked in the past, Why do liberals think it will miraculously work now?

France has tried it and it failed. The former soviet union tried it and it failed. The list goes on and on of all the Countries who have tried socialism and failed, yet Americans seem so willing to ignore history and vote for socialists anyway.

It will never work, not now and not ever! and any liberal who uses Canada as an example (liberals from Canada use Nova Scotia as an example) is either grossly misinformed or a liar. I recently moved to Halifax to finish my commerce degree and from what I see so far people here (on average) are super lazy(why should they work when the gov't will give them money for not working). I will give you some insight on my experiences:

    1. do you make over $116k/year? if yes, give $55,970 in taxes to the government right now! then give them 6% of the value of your house (gov't decides the value of your house here) if its over $500k! if you have any money left over...dont forget to give them an additional 14% on each dollar you spend. because after all you have alot of deadbeats to support.

    2. Health care is so great! keep dreaming, if you want rx be prepared to pay. oh and did I mention even with those High Taxes your ambulance ride to hospital is NOT covered, if you want that add another $150/month or so for supplemental health insurance but dont forget that it really costs 150*1.14=$171 month (those damn taxes)

    3. work ethic or lack there of....if it rains/snows/cloudy even a little, people either dont go to work or show up late.

    4. there is a huge sense of entitlement here too....people have the mindset that if youre rich than you can afford to pay more and therefore should be forced to pay more, never once considering that they are poor because they are lazy, unmotivated, or uneducated but only assuming you are rich but that you didnt earn it.

MINDSET IN SOCIALIST COUNTRIES= adam thinks why should i work hard jon will pick up the slack and jon is thinking why should i work hard when adam is such a slacker...what happens? nothing gets done ever!

if youre thinking about doing business in the maritimes than make sure to factor in poor work ethic, insufficient training, heavy taxes, and poor attitude when doing your cost to benefit analysis

    this province is a joke

They don't. There is a difference between being socially liberal, socially conservative, a social liberal, and a socialist. Two are believers that the government needs to make investments with tax revenues in order to seek social justice. A social liberal not only agrees with the above ideology, but they are also in favor of raising particular tax rates in order to gain more revenues for those projects. And yes, you can have a social conservative, such as my state senator Arlen Specter.

These are all different than socialists, who are supporters of socialism, an economic system, rather than societal investments or justice as they call it. They believed that government should be mixed to the point where it leans more towards central planning that free market, and believe it or not, most liberals would actually prefer a free market over a centrally planned one.

Ask Dennis Kucinich, the Democrats' most liberal candidate this year. The congressman spent most of his life studying economics and and he's not a socialist. He just believes in generating more revenue for social programs. Not saying he's right or wrong, but there is indeed a difference between liberals and socialists, and if you don't believe me, open up Hillary and Obama's stock portfolios.

Liberals want to buy your votes with your own money. They promise you everything all for free. When you ask for them who will pay for it they say "make the rich pay".

Well the rich have tax lawyers and accountants so you know who pays? It's always the middle class. Hard working Americans who get out of bed each morning and go to work.

Taxes are so high on working Americans and the lazy are so well rewarded for their laziness the only way to get ahead is to fall behind!

some kind of socialism will be mandatory if businesses and banks proceed to consolidate and advance. If businesses, technologies, free commerce and globalization make human difficult artwork out of date, that is going to ultimately fall to the authorities to protect some thing, in the different case the gadget will destabilize.

Many liberals are lazy. They don't want to work for their money, so they choose to live off the government. They believe it's the government's job to distribute wealth. Clinton herself is campaigning on "Shared Prosperity".

They also believe that the wealthy are inherently bad people even though they are the biggest contributors to our economy. The poor and uneducated also tend to support socialism because they want government handouts without having to work for anything. Social programs don't motivate anyone to work hard and earn a paycheck.

Socialists should just move to Cuba or Venezuela and leave our free and capitalistic nation alone. Stop trying to bring their values to the United States of America.

Give my answer a thumbs down if you support socialism... Thumbs up if you support capitalism.

Socialism is working wonderfully in many parts of Europe. It's pretty awesome to live in some parts of that continent right now.

However, it is also bankrupting many of the countries and in 20-30 years the system will probably collapse.

If you mean programs like universal health care as "socialism" please explain how this has failed in France?

In France life expectancy is 3 years greater than in the US, healthy life expectancy is 3 years greater than in the US, and a child is approximately half as likely to die before the age of 5. Yet the French spend half what we do per capita on health care - hardly a failed system.

Comparisons between the Soviet Union and modern American liberalism are at best ignorant, at worst deliberately dishonest - I will let you tell us which.

I would say the laissez faire economics of the extreme right has a much better record of failure - look at Dickensian England or the Great Depression.

Most liberals are selective about the history they study.

Many of them study history only from an angle of how bad 'whittie' is....and thus the utter failure of socialism eludes them.

They are too busy looking into whether or not Thomas Jefferson was a rapist.

The liberals think that they can handle your money better than you can. And they're starving over there in Washington DC. Send your money to the starving liberals for socialism!

Oh, didn't you know? Hippies can do anything with the power of weed! Peace and love! Peace and love! The only problem is when they come off their high and realize reality.
