They did it in...Ewoks back in the day and Clone Wars. It wasn't the same but it was kinda cool.
I mean, if the stories are for something that adds to the Star Wars universe, and not essential to canonical Star Wars, then I think the cartoons are fine.
Look at Clone Wars. The scar on Anakin's face came from the cartoon episodes. But if you didn't watch the cartoons, it wouldn't have mattered much. Same thing with the beginning of Episode 3. At the beginning, it started off with a big battle. At the end of Eps. 2, we are told "begin the clone war has" - so we assume that now, we are at war.
But if you caught Clone Wars, the last episode, it ended with the cliff hanger of Palpatine being "captured" by Grievous.
None of that was essential to canonical Star Wars, but added a lot of richness to it, though.
