One of the national holidays of Egypt is the Sinai Liberation Day on April 25. It is the day to celebrate the return of Sinai Peninsula from Israel back to Egypt.
History of the Sinai Liberation Day:
1956: Egyptian troops fought against the Israeli troops at the Sinai Peninsula for Israeli's first invation. They had forced the Israeli troops to withdraw from Sinai Peninsula.
1967: Israeli troops occupied Sinai Peninsula.
1973: October War or Yom Kippur War (same as October War) allowed the Egyptian troops the destory the Bar Lev Line of Israel. Liberate part of Sinai Peninsula territory, and broke the myth of Israel not going to war.
1980: Accroding to the Israel-Egypt Peace Treaty signed by Egypt and Israel in 1979, Egypt was able to take 2/3 of Sinai Peninsula's territory back.
1982: Egypt took the other 1/3 of the Sinai Peninsula territory back. Egypt reoccupied Sinai Peninsula.
The meaning of the Sinai Liberation Day: Israel withdraw from Sinai Peninsula in 1982, however, both Egypt and Israel had another conflict on which nation should Taba belong to. The conflict went on for as long as 6 years. In September of 1988, United Nations Emergency Force (UNEF) made the decision that Taba belongs to Egypt. On December 19 of the same year, the border was set at Taba.
Accroding to the the Israel-Egypt Peace Treaty, Israeli citizens would be allowed to travel in Sinai Peninsula freely without any kind of visa.
