I have 2 domestic assault convictions, can i own a firearm in the state of iowa?

my convictions are domestic assault-simple and domestic assault-serious enhanced and they are from 1999.

    No, nor in any other State.

    Under what is called the Lautenberg Amendment, Federal Law prohibits anyone convicted of any domestic violence crime from ever owning or possessing a firearm.

    This even applies to military personnel on duty - so the military has had to discharge hundreds of troops who could no longer be issued weapons.

    I thought it was illegal for a convicted felon in USA was not allowed to own a firearm. Did you serve time in jail? If you havent you might still be alloweed to own a firearm.
