What will I use to reduce number of wires on long distance switching of equipments?

    (Guess you want to reduce the number of control wires.)

    perhaps use some kind of multiplexer to send the signals from the "control panel" down a (few) wires. at the other end you'd need a de-multiplexer to split the signals back out to control the switches.

    Another related option, which I think is used in industry, is the controller/relay board. The following is a small controller board, which needs to be attached to a PC via USB to work.

    Industrial ones uses different types of data bus, usually one much more resistant to electrical interference, and allow longer controling cable runs. Industrial controller boards come with a range of accessories, which can be used for controlling/interrogating them (so don't tie up a PC) Some have programmable logic which allows them to do some of the processing themselves, including maybe shutting down/issuing a warning if there is a problem.

    My suggestion would be to convert any parralel port communication network to a serial port communication, like a UART of some sort. This will drop the number of lines drasically, depending on how many switching elements. But it will require that you build some control element at the switching end to read serial data and convert those commands to control your switching. This will reduce the number of wires over the long distance, and still give you parrallel access to your switching equipment. I hope this helps!
