Work is the miserable act of doing tasks and receiving compensation for those tasks in order to provide for you and your family. Work typically lasts 4o hours a week, with 2 weeks off each year. Bye the time you are done, you don't remember how to dress yourself, you've forgot your name, and some nurse has to change your diaper twice a day.

From a physics perspective, it's a force applied over a distance, such as pushing a crate. It's calculated with F*d and is measured in Joules.

It depends in what context it is used. In general, work in my opinion, is a task that you undertake that takes up more energy / resources than usual (i.e. you are doing something that requires you to work in order to accomplish it). Whoever invented 'work' wants shooting (joke).
