It's not a horrible job and it's not the worst... I guess the best way to describe it is like a "glorified fed ex" job.... It's cargo and passenger movement in a nut shell. There's a lot of different "sections" in this career field...so you'll have the oppertunity to do various jobs. You could be doing all the military hops, or you could be kicking pallets off a plane, or you could be building up all the cargo. Some bases have riggers, which is supposed to be pretty cool... And we do "SWAT", but not the type your thinking about. For us SWAT stands for **** Water and Trash. Basically they deliver meals to the planes, and sometimes suck the **** from them.
Yea, I know you're probably thinking that this job is going to blow... but you get the oppertunity to see a lot of cool things...And more importantly it's the pride that comes from being a 2T2. We call ourselves the "port dawgs" And once you're a 2T2 you become proud of it, even if you hate the job...
I suppose what makes the job worth while is the people you meet, and some of the things you see.
I guess it's all in the attitude you have about it. If you decide to make the best of it you'll end up having a blast. Some sections are better then others obviously, but there's so many different places to work in our career field that it's pretty neat.
And about carrying over into the civilian world, well there's always UPS & Fed Ex & the post office, and also working at civilian airports...
If you want information that goes more in depth then shoot me a message and I'll tell ya more. I just don't want to go into everything on yahoo.
Good Luck! And welcome to the "Port Dawgs"
