Another option is to threaten to disconnect and go with Satellite. Be ready to accept that your threat may have to take place. cable companies have a dept called "Save-a-Sub" (Save a Subscriber). Many times they will call you back before your service is disconnected or possibly shortly after you disconnect. These folks are working on commission and are working on stats. Once you have them, you can go promotions that were offered for "new customers only". Another, not favorable way is to call and downgrade your service to what they call 'baby basic". Meaning that you are basically going to recive the local channels and maybe some other crappy channels as well (no Discovery, Disney, TLC, etc...). One thing that happens often with this is they will change it in the computer and create a work order to have your line "trapped" at a later date. They will schedule this so don't be home. A technician will be scheduled to go to your home to complete this. There are occasions when the tech will knock on your door to see if this is complete, if your not home, then he/she can not verify. On occasion they trap the wrong home and you're good to go. Your neighbor will put in a call for a service technician and that technician will go out and remove it off of your neighbors line. You then have the higher cable package while paying a lower bill. If this fails, order the "baby basic"...the technician places a trap on your line. Wait for a day, remove the trap yourself. If your cable system is in an underground plant, go into the pedestal and remove the trap. You will probably be the only one with a trap so you should easily locate it. If the cable system is aerial plant, DON'T climb the telephone pole to take off the trap. Not worth breaking your neck. PS. Another method is to get a full-time or part-time job with them and you will get all of the services for free.
