This whole phrase basically just means "when."

It comes from the U.S. Declaration of Independence.

"human events" = things that happen in human life and human societies. e.g. wars, treaties, establishments of governments, taxation, etc.--any events that involve humans.

"in the course of" = during. course means a series, or a sequence, basically just a process of things happening.

So, "when in the course of human events...it becomes necessary, etc." means: "when, in human life...it becomes necessary, etc."

And the "C" is capitalized in the quote, because at the time the original document was written (in the late 1700s), writers capitalized random letters without following the rules we have today. If the sentence were written today, it would have a lower-case "c" as you noticed. But because it was written a long time ago, it has a capital "C" just because the author felt like it. And when we quote the document today, to be accurate to the original document, we quote it with a capital "C" if the whole phrase is in quotes.

  • capitol letters used in our Declaration of Independence were not used because the author felt like it; they are there to put emphasis and stress on certain words .It was the Course of human Events that caused it to become necessary for one People to dissolve the Political Bands that connected us to Great Britain.

Now one must look at the Course of human Events that took place in order for one to understand why the Political Bands were dissolved.

The capitol letters in this official document are very important. Now after you read the Course of human Events which took place you will be able to understand that the History of the present King of Great Britain is a History of repeated Injuries and Usurpations, all having in direct Object the Establishment of a Absolute Tyranny over these states.

This was a Evil King. The thirteen colonies did not want a government in which absolute power was vested in one earthly ruler.

This king thought that he was the god of the earth. The thirteen colonies all stood as one People. They had to dissolve the Political Bands because they assumed that the Powers of the Earth were to be the separate and equal station to which the Laws of Nature and of Natures God entitled them.

They held the truths to be self-evident, that all Men are created equal. This King thought that he had the Political Power to rule these thirteen colonies. The charters gave these thirteen colonies the right to rule these colonies the way that they saw fit.

If one will read the charters, one will see that the thirteen colonies Purpose for coming to America was to create, form and make a Christian Nation in which Almighty God would be the only Governor, and Supreme Ruler throughout all the land..

These colonies did not want this One man of the Earth to have Rule over their decision making--they wanted Almighty God to be the Ruler over all the Laws that would be made. They choose to dissolve all Political Bands and they kept their Religious Bands in place,

Don't ever think that these Capitol letters were just put their because the author felt like it. That is not true.

Having culture. Animals rely on insticts to guide their behavior but humans don't. Humans are the only creatures that use culture to survive- if people didn't have a culture to teach them they are left with no insticts to guide them and would probably die. And we are the only creatures that are willing to fight for what we believe in- animals fight for practical things such as food, territory or mates. That is what makes us human.
