Isnt science the true 'religion' of the world?

if god created everything around us, wouldnt studying his great creation bring you closer to him. If you wanted to understand the heavens, shouldnt you grab a telescope, study the movement of the planets, try to comprehend dark matter etc.? If you want to understand the earth, shouldnt you dig up minerals, break them down into simple compounds and study their reactions? if you want to understand animals, wouldnt it make sense to study their interactions and their progression over time.? wouldnt 'god' want us to understand his creation by observing it, using logic and reason to process the information? doesnt that actually bring us closer to him, instead of just blindly following a book?
