What is the difference between this and regular commercial construction?

Light Commercial development would be a single commercial enterprise or a strip mall. Regular commercial development would be a Big Box store or a Mall. The difference from an engineering point would be the need for parking, emergency exits and fire and safety considerations. There is a different concern in getting people to safety from the Great American Mall than the local 7-11. The importance may be the same but the logistics would be different.

An example of light commercial construction would be a single-story strip-mall with spaces for 6 to10 1000 sq. ft. offices/shops. Another example: a small club-house for a golf course.

A restaurant (regular or fast-food) wouldn't necessarily be light commercial, because of the extra utility requirements (gas, electric, and sewer).

Regular commercial construction would be multi-story office buildings, warehouses, large stores with high ceilings, 2 or 3-story parking structures.

Building medium sized office buildings and warehouses is an example. These buildings are often built pretty quickly and warehouses using the Butler systems for the steel are relatively inexpensive and good looking from the outside.

regular would be more like jobs for buisness's (McDonalds, Dentists...)
