I told a coworker our boss was going to fire her...?

and she 'burned the bridge' and went and told him what an a** he is. He fired her.

Now I'm feeling kinda bad because it was meant to be a joke and now I have to do my work and hers.

What should I do?

    Shrug it off.

She must have been holding a lot of resentment towards the boss inside to react like that. A rational person would have inquired in a sensible matter, not gone and blown her top.

What got her fired was her interaction--on her own initiative--with the boss. The fault is hers, not yours.

Wait till someone else gets hired.

Repeat with someone ELSE you don't like.

edit: think about it- with you constantly picking up the slack for the new workers, your manager will think of you as "loyal" and a "hard worker". He may even give you a small raise and a "managerial position".

In other words, keep up the good work- you've just found an elevator next to the loooooong ladder to middle management.

there is nothing you can do.

you cannot tell either one (her or the boss) that will only get you fired.

Work some overtime and make some more money.

Ask for a raise since you must do the work of two now

    Oh my god!

    Why did you do that?

I know, I know, it was a joke and you didn't understand how bad it could have hurt things.

You need to talk to your boss and then talk to her.

Try your hardest to work things out but she's pretty much screwed for talking to him like that.

Sounds like you better get busy, you have a lot of work to do!

You better go have a nice long talk with your boss and then with your friend.

    1) Apologize to her

    2) Do the work. It's your fault.

For penance you must walk through a gay bar in a thong.

You have only one honorable choice now. You will have to support her and her family until she is able to find a new job.
