Do I have to file an IN return if I live in IL but won $1,250 @ a casino in IN? They witheld $45 for state tax

    You don't HAVE to. But why wouldn't you want to? It's simple if that's your only IN income, you will probably get a refund. You have to declare it on your IL income as an IL resident and pay IL tax on it, but you are entitled to a credit for the IN tax (if any) but you have to attach a copy of your IN tax to get it.

    You have to report it as out of state income if you recieved a 1099 from the state you won it in. If you paid taxes on it you will have to report it.

    Blue Chip? Naw, my sister won 20,000 there, they took a ton in taxes, and thats the end of that.

    Since you won the money there, they can withhold tax.

    You do not need to file a return.
